With the new fiscal year finally here, companies often take this time to perform their year-end close and upgrade their Microsoft Dynamics GP to take advantage of news features and year-end updates. Dynamics GP best practices suggests closing the most common modules during your year-end close:
1) Inventory Control
2) Receivables Management
3) Payables Management
4) Fixed Assets
5) Analytical Accounting
6) General Ledger
Closing these year-end modules is recommend before performing a GP upgrade. You can then archive that historical data from your ‘live’ company to an ‘archive’ company by using CDA or CDA Plus, which in return will lead to a faster GP upgrade:
Subsequently, when it comes to upgrading your Microsoft Dynamics GP environment, it can often take a significant amount of time to complete this process due to the amount of data in your GP production company. However, if you were to perform an archive before your upgrade, in turn shrinking your live database, you would see your upgrade perform significantly faster. This leaves you with the option to upgrade your historical database at your leisure or down time later in the year. Let’s put this concept into a more relatable example: Picture the upgrade like moving into a new house. In anticipation of your move, you hire a moving company (i.e. CDA) to move half your belongings into storage (i.e. an archive company). Now with half of your belongings automatically moved into storage, and you take the other half into your new house. This will allow you to move into your new house in roughly half of the time it would have taken you to move everything.
